The Nature of Handmade Products

Each of our products is made by hand, one piece at a time; there may be slight variations between batches.

On Preservatives

Our flower waters are naturally preserved with radish root ferment. Our oil-based blends are preservative free. To avoid bacterial growth, remove product using a sterile object and avoid contamination with water as H20 supports all life, from the microbial to animal kingdoms!

Shelf Life

Products are handmade to order to ensure freshness but like all natural things, will not have an unlimited shelf life. Our flower waters and infused bath oils are the most delicate of our collections and are best used within six months of purchase; our other products will produce the best results within twelve months of purchase, although this can be extended by storing the products in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.

On Organic Certification

Our products are 100% natural and contain the purest, freshest herbs and essential oils we can find. While many of our ingredients are certified organic, the process of getting a certified organic label from the USDA is a lengthy and one and many of our small, local suppliers have found this cost prohibitive. You can see which of our ingredients are certified organic on our product detail pages.

Vegan

All of our products are vegan with the exception of the angelica bath milk (which contains milk powder) and several of the balms and salves (which contain beeswax).

Cruelty-Free

We are 100% cruelty free and NEVER test our products on animals.

Using Products while Pregnant

There are conflicting opinions on this but due to a lack of clinical trials on the subject we take a precautionary approach and advise against using essential oil based blends during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester. We have specially formulated one product, our rosehip stretch mark blend, with ingredients generally accepted as safe for use by pregnant women by the NAHA (National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy). When in doubt we suggest reviewing the ingredients list with your doctor before use.

Using Products while Breastfeeding

Avoid using essential oil based blends on the breast area to prevent contact with your babies mouth. Our products our not intended to be taken internally and therefore cannot be passed to your baby via breast milk, however some essential oils are said to increase (clary sage, fennel, basil, geranium) or decrease (peppermint) milk supply.

Using Products on Babies

The only products that are suitable for babies are the chamomile baby bath soak and the chamomile baby massage oil. These are extremely mild dilutions and are blended with only the gentlest of essential oils. Neonatal skin takes time to mature and is more permeable than adult skin, so as a precaution we recommend waiting until children are at least 6 months old before introducing these products.
