Strawberry

Fragaria × ananassa, the cultivated strawberry, is not native to any specific region in the wild. It is a hybrid species that was artificially created by crossbreeding two wild strawberry species: Fragaria chiloensis (native to Chile) and Fragaria virginiana (native to eastern North America).

The hybridization of these two species occurred in Europe during the 18th century, and the cultivated strawberry we know today (Fragaria × ananassa) was developed from these intentional crosses. The goal of the hybridization was to combine the desirable traits of both wild species to create a new strawberry with improved taste, size, and yield.

As a cultivated species, Fragaria × ananassa is now grown in various regions around the world with suitable growing conditions. It is widely cultivated for its delicious and sweet fruit, and strawberry farming is an important agricultural industry in many countries. Our strawberry is sourced from various countries.
